Why We Started
We started this business because we know how rare it is to have access to such a vast variety of game animals and waterfowl. I grew up on this land, farming with my family, and later realized that most hunters never get the chance to experience a place that truly has it all—agricultural land, timber, swamps, river access, abundant wildlife with more than 20 different species of ducks each year. We want to share this experience with others.

My name is Justin Nichols. I studied Agricultural Business at NC State, earned a Welding Technology degree from Pitt Community College, and later graduated from East Carolina University in Industrial Engineering. I previously taught welding at Pitt Community College and now teach at Martin Community College where I’m also the Director of NCEdge Customized Training.
Through teaching, I developed a passion for helping others succeed. That same passion drives Tar River Outfitters—because seeing others find joy and success in the outdoors gives me purpose and satisfaction in what I do.
